Fredericksburg is just a little over an hour from either Austin or San Antonio airports, making it incredibly easy to get to while still feeling like you’re escaping into a whole new world. Whether you fly into San Antonio or Austin, the scenic drive into Hill Country is part of the experience, and well worth it.
A Smooth Start with Texas Wine Tours
Our journey began with a luxury airport pickup in San Antonio with Texas Wine Tours, and we couldn’t have been happier with the service. Their upscale transportation set the tone for the trip, it felt elevated, comfortable, and exactly what you want when visiting this Napa Valley of Texas destination. We knew we were in for a special kind of experience from the moment we got in.
Our Home Base: Fredericksburg Inn & Suites
We stayed at the Fredericksburg Inn & Suites, and let me just say, location, location, location! This cozy inn is just a short walk to downtown, which might be the highlight of your trip. There’s no need to drive once you’re checked in. It’s the kind of place where you feel like a local just strolling down Main Street.
Shopping, Food & a Little Bit of History
From the moment we stepped onto Main Street, we were in love. It’s lined with adorable boutiques, where I found some of the cutest dresses I’ve ever seen. Each shop had its own personality, and the shopkeepers were so welcoming, which made exploring even more enjoyable.
Fredericksburg also knows how to do food, really, really well. One of the most memorable meals we had was in the morgue of an old hospital. It might sound a little spooky, but the atmosphere was actually so unique, and the food? Absolutely amazing. The history of the place added a whole new depth to the experience, making it a meal we’ll never forget.
Wildflowers, Wine & Live Music
We made sure to explore beyond downtown too. A visit to Wildseed Farms felt like walking into a dream. The colorful fields of flowers were gorgeous, and the peaceful trails were perfect for a midday stroll. But it wasn’t just about the blooms, they also have a wine tasting area, an on-site distillery, and an adorable gift shop filled with local treasures. You could easily spend hours here sipping, shopping, and soaking it all in.
Then we headed to Luckenbach, a little town with big country music soul. Live music plays while people gather under the trees, and you just get this feeling that life slows down there. It’s classic Texas in the best way.
Luckenbach’s Musical Legacy
Luckenbach isn’t just a charming spot, it’s a place immortalized in country music history. In 1977, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson released the hit song “Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love),” which romanticized the idea of escaping the pressures of high society and returning to a simpler life. The song became a country anthem, turning this tiny town into a must-visit destination for music lovers. Even if you’ve never been, the lyrics might make you feel like you have.
And of course, no trip to Hill Country is complete without a visit to a vineyard. We chose Becker Vineyards, and it did not disappoint. Surrounded by lavender fields and sipping delicious wine? Yes, please.

And with easy access from two major cities and the option to pair it with a day in San Antonio or Austin, it’s the kind of trip that feels both spontaneous and special.
