As a travel professional, I’ve had the opportunity to experience some incredible ships over the years, but the brand-new NCL Aqua truly raises the bar. I recently had the pleasure of spending two nights onboard during its NYC Inaugural Event. I walked away seriously impressed with the ship’s upscale vibe, thoughtful design, and endless offerings for adults and families.
Sophisticated Design Meets Comfort
From the moment I stepped onboard, I was struck by the earthy tones, calming spaces, and sleek modern finishes that gave Aqua an elegant, almost resort-like feel. Every corner of the ship felt intentional, without being overwhelming, or losing its warmth. It’s a space where couples and families will feel right at home.
Family-Friendly Accommodations
During my stay, I experienced one of the Family Balcony cabins, which are absolutely perfect for cruising with kids. These staterooms sleep up to four guests with two lower beds that convert into a queen, plus a double sofa bed. There’s a spacious bathroom (a huge win for families!), and of course, a private balcony to take in the sea views together. Some of these staterooms also connect to neighboring cabins, giving extended families or larger groups the flexibility to spread out while staying close.
Activities for Kids & Teens
One of the things I loved most about Aqua is how much there is for kids and teens to enjoy, this is definitely not a ship where the kids will be bored! Some family favorites onboard include:
🎮 The Arcade – Packed with games for all ages, it’s a go-to spot for rainy days or post-dinner fun.
🏀 Glow Court – A vibrant, neon-lit sports court that’s as fun to look at as it is to play on.
🏌️ Mini Golf – Great for the whole family to enjoy some friendly competition with a view.
🌊 Water Slides and Aqua Park – A must-do for younger cruisers who love to splash and play (check age and height requirements).
👾 Dedicated Youth Spaces – NCL’s youth programs continue to shine, and Aqua offers separate areas for kids and teens to chill, connect, and stay entertained.
Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, tweens, or teens, this ship offers nonstop entertainment to keep them happy and engaged, giving parents a little well-earned downtime.
Dining Highlights
Our first night aboard, we dined at Hudson’s, the ship’s elegant main dining room. While the entrées didn’t completely wow us, I’m still dreaming about the honey crème brûlée which is an absolute must-try!
Surprisingly, the buffet stole the show for us. We ate there for breakfast and lunch; everything was fresh, flavorful, and abundant.
Dinner at Hasuki, the teppanyaki-style restaurant, was one of the highlights of our visit. Our chef sang through the entire performance, cracked jokes, and made the whole experience incredibly fun, which makes it perfect for families and groups.
Entertainment & Extras
The Aqua Theater is simply stunning. While the show Elements was just okay in our opinion, we were thoroughly entertained by Revolution, a dynamic tribute to Prince that had the entire audience engaged from start to finish.
We also caught a show at The Improv at Sea, and the comedian had us in stitches—great for a fun adult night out.

🎰 The Casino – Although it wasn’t open during our visit, it’s one of the largest I’ve seen at sea.
